It is simple and easy to use yet powerful which makes it suitable for use by both the professionals and beginners. It contains hundreds of unique filters, presets, borders and textures to help you develope and enhance you own distinct style.

ON1 Effect 10.5 is a powerful photo editing tool that works as a stand-alone software and also as a plug-in for Photoshop, Lightroom, Elements and Apple Photos. Using it as a more general photo-finishing program comes with a steep learning curve and little assistance, and for all that you’ll still be missing some basic capabilities. In the end, I feel it’s what it claims to be: a program for applying special effects - via the presets. It can be a bit daunting, especially for someone who might not be familiar with common post-processing functions and terminology. Many filters have presets of their own to try to make them easier to use. There are hundreds of filters in 25 categories that you can choose from, each with its own set of adjustments. Once you get beyond the presets, this is a complicated program. I imagine that the Film presets are one of the most popular categories. For my taste, many of the presets are over-the-top, and many of the rest seem to be of novelty value only. It comes with over 400 presets in over 30 categories built-in, and more can be downloaded with the “Preset > Get More Presets…” menu option. Within that limitation, though, it’s pretty powerful. You do have masking capabilities, but no cropping, no rotation, no resizing, no clone or healing tools, no compositing of multiple images, no watermarking, nothing like that.
